WASHINGTON : Lyles produced an explosive start at Icahn Stadium and remained firmly in control throughout the race, crossing the finish line 0.09 seconds ahead of Ronnie Baker. Kenny Bednarek secured third place.
The victory saw Lyles equal his personal best, previously recorded during the thrilling 100-metre final at the Paris Olympics two years ago.
Sending a strong warning to his rivals, Lyles said: “Just because it’s a year off from major tournaments doesn’t mean I’m planning to run slowly.”

The US National Track and Field Championships traditionally serve as a qualifying event for the World Championships or Olympic Games. However, this year’s competition lacked some of its usual intensity, with neither major global event scheduled during the season.
In the women’s 100 metres, 2023 world champion Sha’Carri Richardson comfortably claimed the national title despite a reduced level of competition.
Richardson advanced through the semi-finals in a wind-assisted 10.78 seconds before winning the final in 10.77 seconds. Kayla White finished second in 10.90 seconds, while Tamari Davis took third place with a time of 11.00 seconds.
