BERLIN : The euro gained 0.17 percent in the latest trading to reach $1.1429, supported by expectations surrounding the ECB’s policy outlook and recent economic data.

The central bank raised interest rates in June and indicated that further monetary tightening could be considered. However, improved data on prices, wages, economic activity and inflation expectations in recent weeks have reduced expectations of a rapid pace of rate increases.

Rising oil prices linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East remain a key factor for policymakers, as a sustained energy price shock could increase inflationary pressures and prompt further adjustments to interest rates.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index, which tracks the performance of the dollar against a basket of major currencies including the euro and yen, fell 0.13 percent to 100.98.

The Australian dollar advanced 0.23 percent to $0.7012, while the New Zealand dollar traded at $0.5818. The British pound rose nearly 0.1 percent to $1.3384.

The Japanese yen edged up 0.04 percent to 163.05.

In cryptocurrency markets, Bitcoin declined 0.5 percent to $65,557.35, while Ether fell 0.44 percent to $1,917.65.
