New Delhi: Indian officials said the deaths were reported after intense rain battered several regions earlier this week, causing flash floods, landslides and widespread damage.

Police said at least 15 people were killed in separate rain-related incidents in Poonch, Rajouri and Doda districts, while several others remain missing. Rescue and relief operations are continuing in the affected areas.

In the northeastern state of Nagaland, nine people were killed after continuous rainfall triggered landslides, an official said.
Meanwhile, the disaster management authority in neighbouring Assam reported one death after floods affected more than 57,000 people across seven districts of the state.

India’s Meteorological Office has warned that monsoon conditions are expected to continue over northwest, east and northeast India for the next six to seven days, raising fears of further flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
