CARACAS – National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said in a statement that the number of fatalities had increased by 50 over the past 24 hours. The number of survivors rescued remained unchanged at 6,462.
The twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck Venezuela on June 24, just 40 seconds apart, causing widespread destruction and prompting the government to declare a state of emergency.
Following the disaster, countries and international organisations dispatched search-and-rescue teams and humanitarian assistance to support relief efforts in the affected areas.
