HAMBURG – The barriers were used to moisten the soil and trees in unaffected sections of the forest, creating buffer zones to stop the flames from advancing.
A spokesperson for the Mecklenburg Lake District said around 370 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze.
The spokesperson attributed the rapid spread of the fire to prolonged dry conditions, with westerly winds further fuelling the flames.

Authorities said smoke levels continued to decline, indicating that the fire was becoming less active. However, they urged tourists to stay away from the affected area while firefighting operations continue.
