Caracas: National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said in the latest figures released today that 79 more victims had been recovered, pushing the total number of deaths to 5,069.
The number of injured remains unchanged at 16,740, while 17,907 people are still homeless following the disaster. Rodriguez said authorities are working to provide support and help affected families secure new housing.
The earthquakes, which struck Venezuela on June 24, caused widespread destruction within seconds, bringing down buildings and residential complexes and leaving thousands trapped under the rubble.

Earlier statistics released by authorities in Caracas had placed the death toll at 4,490, with thousands of people still listed as missing.
