KARACHI : The clarification came after reports and social media claims suggested that overseas Pakistanis, including British passport holders, would no longer be permitted to travel to Pakistan using a valid NICOP.

A government spokesperson said such reports were inaccurate, stressing that the latest directive applies only to travellers whose NICOP has expired, been cancelled, or is otherwise invalid.

The clarification followed an airline advisory that was interpreted by some travellers as a requirement for all British Pakistanis to carry a Pakistani passport or obtain a visa before travelling from July 17.

Officials said the updated instructions are not specific to any nationality and apply to overseas Pakistanis travelling from all countries, including the United Kingdom, United States and European nations.

Under the revised enforcement measures, passengers travelling on foreign passports with a valid NICOP may continue to enter Pakistan without a visa. However, those whose NICOP has expired, been cancelled or is invalid must either obtain a Pakistani visa or travel on a valid Pakistani passport.

Airlines have been instructed not to allow boarding for passengers who do not meet these requirements, with authorities saying no exceptions will be made for travellers lacking valid documentation.

The government also said the measure aligns with existing rules for other services, where expired identity documents can affect access to banking, SIM registration and property-related transactions.
