MUSCAT – The cases were filed after consumers reported faults in two smartphones and a washing machine. According to the Authority, the establishments failed to repair or replace the defective products in line with the agreed warranty terms, while one business also failed to provide a sales invoice in Arabic as required under Oman’s consumer protection regulations.
The courts convicted the defendants of failing to provide services properly, failing to repair or replace defective products or refund their value, failing to honour repair and maintenance warranty obligations, and, in one case, failing to issue an invoice written in Arabic.
The courts imposed enforceable fines totalling RO 1,000, comprising RO 600 in the washing machine case – following the merger of penalties and enforcement of the most severe sentence – and RO 400 in the second case.
The court also ordered the suspension of the penalties while requiring the convicted establishments to bear the legal costs.
