WASHINGTON : The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had completed another round of overnight strikes against Iranian military targets, describing the operation as a response to what it said were Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the region.
According to CENTCOM, the latest operation targeted around 90 military sites along Iran’s coastline, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage facilities, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure.
The latest strikes follow a similar operation carried out a day earlier, when CENTCOM said US forces struck 80 Iranian military targets, including more than 60 small boats belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iranian state media reported that at least three people were killed and several others injured in a US strike on a site near the southwestern city of Ahvaz.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched attacks on a number of sites in the region in retaliation for the recent US military operations against Iran. The announcement was carried by Iranian state television.
