MUSCAT: The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW), in its 2025 Annual Report, said termination-related complaints were among the most prominent labour issues handled during the year, with 2,182 workers across 30 establishments receiving termination notices or being affected by collective dismissals.
The report highlighted the role played by the federation in addressing labour disputes and protecting workers’ rights through legal consultations, mediation efforts and representation before relevant committees and courts.
According to the report, the committee responsible for reviewing private sector requests to reduce workforce numbers for economic reasons examined 120 applications during 2025. The committee rejected 87 requests to terminate employment contracts and also turned down a request that would have resulted in the dismissal of 2,035 Omani workers.

At the same time, the committee approved five requests to temporarily reduce the wages of Omani workers by between 10 and 25 per cent for six months, alongside reduced working hours. It also approved requests to terminate the services of 28 Omani workers from six companies and 485 expatriate workers from 10 companies.
The federation said it provided 497 legal consultations and labour complaint services during the year, while offering judicial support in 144 cases before primary and appellate courts. A total of 116 labour cases were resolved in favour of workers, with the report stating that all completed cases recorded a 100 per cent success rate.
Meanwhile, the number of registered labour unions in Oman continued to grow, reaching 340 by the end of 2025, reflecting the expanding role of organised labour representation across the Sultanate.
