MUSCAT : The destination in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is attracting increasing numbers of domestic and international visitors, with authorities continuing to invest in infrastructure and visitor facilities to support the growing tourism sector.

Eng. Sulaiman bin Hamad Al Sunaidi, Director General of Al Dakhiliyah Municipality, said the governorate is implementing a range of projects and initiatives aimed at upgrading tourism destinations, improving natural sites and enhancing visitor services in line with rising tourism demand and the goals of economic diversification.

He said the Eastern Mountain has become a focal point for tourism development due to its unique natural environment, pleasant weather and proximity to other attractions across Al Dakhiliyah, allowing visitors to enjoy a broader tourism experience.

Summer activities at the destination, which run until August 30, feature cultural, entertainment and community programmes designed for all age groups. The events are also expected to stimulate commercial activity, support productive families, create opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs, and encourage greater community participation in the tourism sector.

Visitors can enjoy children’s entertainment, cultural performances, family seating areas, local products and handicraft stalls, SME exhibitions, camping facilities and mountain hiking trails, offering an integrated tourism experience that combines recreation, nature and local culture.

Al Sunaidi said work is progressing on the Eastern Mountain Oasis Project, which has surpassed 60 per cent completion. Once finished, the project will add new recreational, cultural and investment facilities designed to enhance the sustainability of tourism and improve the overall visitor experience.

Construction is currently focused on completing investment and service facilities, an outdoor theatre, shaded public areas, landscaping and final finishing works. The project is being implemented using engineering standards suited to the mountainous terrain while ensuring visitor safety and environmental protection.

He added that the development is also generating local economic benefits by awarding contracts to Omani companies and SMEs, helping to strengthen local content and create new business opportunities.
The municipality said the Eastern Mountain represents a growing model for sustainable tourism development in Oman, combining natural attractions, seasonal events and modern infrastructure to position Al Dakhiliyah as a year-round tourism destination.
