MUSCAT – The Council examined the new tourism projects and the promotional and marketing plan carried out by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to attract visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, along with the latest preparations and arrangements for the launch of the 2026 Khareef Dhofar season.
This came during the Council’s meeting held today, chaired by His Highness Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar and Chairman of the Council.
The Council was briefed on the efforts exerted to raise the governorate’s readiness to receive visitors and tourists during the Khareef Dhofar season. It also followed up on the implementation of the season’s programme, which includes a diverse package of events distributed across a number of locations and wilayats in the governorate. This contributes to enriching the visitors’ experience and enhancing Dhofar’s position as a leading tourist destination.
Furthermore, the Council discussed a number of topics on the agenda, including the proposals of the Social Affairs Committee regarding the childhood benefit for separated families, and the proposals of the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee concerning the protection of the Khor Kharfot Archaeological Reserve. This was in addition to a proposal to establish an association for frankincense producers in Dhofar Governorate, which aims to contribute to preserving this heritage resource and enhancing its sustainability.
The Council also reviewed the latest updates on following up the recommendations of the Governorate Development Committee regarding the proposals to establish the Dhofar Dairy Center, and to prepare a comprehensive vision for developing the Aqabat Al Yasmeen road and enhancing traffic safety on it, in coordination with the competent authorities.
Within the framework of enhancing community partnership, the Council reviewed what had been accomplished in the first phase of the introductory meetings about the Council’s work with school students, as well as the implementation plan for the second phase.
Additionally, the Council reviewed the statements received from the competent authorities regarding its previous recommendations related to water springs in Dhofar Governorate. It also discussed a number of developmental and service-related topics that contribute to supporting the march of development and improving the quality of life in the governorate.
