BEIJING : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing Iran-US peace process, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

The discussions centred on the first round of high-level talks between the United States and Iran held in Switzerland, which were jointly mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.

During the conversation, Wang congratulated Pakistan’s leadership for its diplomatic efforts and commended Islamabad’s commitment to promoting peace and regional stability. He also reiterated China’s “unwavering support” for Pakistan’s mediation initiative, stressing the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means in line with the United Nations Charter.

Dar briefed his Chinese counterpart on the progress made during the talks, including the establishment of a high-level committee to oversee the mediation process under a memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran last week.

He said three specialised working groups have also been formed to address key issues, including the nuclear programme, sanctions and monitoring mechanisms, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement between Washington and Tehran within 60 days.
