NEW YORK — U.S. President Donald Trump said a new agreement with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Saturday, adding that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened to all maritime traffic immediately after the deal takes effect.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump again criticised the 2015 nuclear agreement negotiated under former President Barack Obama, arguing that the accord would have enabled Iran to eventually obtain a nuclear weapon.
“Obama’s deal would have led Iran to a nuclear weapon. This deal does the opposite,” Trump wrote.

He said Iran had abandoned any pursuit of nuclear arms and would not be allowed to acquire them “through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement.”
“The deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump said.
Trump also said relations between Washington and Tehran had improved under his administration.
“Our relationship with Iran is a much different and better one than previous Administrations have had,” he added.
