MUSCAT : The newly inducted aircraft is named after Sur, the historic Omani coastal city renowned for its maritime heritage and traditional shipbuilding industry. The name was selected through a community vote conducted on Instagram, reflecting travellers’ connection to destinations and landmarks that represent Oman’s cultural identity.

SalamAir said the addition of Sur will enhance fleet flexibility and support the airline’s ongoing expansion plans, enabling it to offer more travel options to passengers while responding to increasing demand for air travel.

The carrier noted that its aircraft naming initiative is designed to showcase Oman’s cultural and natural landmarks to a global audience. By naming aircraft after significant locations across the Sultanate, SalamAir aims to highlight the country’s heritage and share the stories behind its most iconic destinations.

The latest fleet addition forms part of the airline’s long-term growth strategy, which targets increasing the fleet size to 25 aircraft by 2028. The expansion is expected to support network development, improve connectivity and create additional opportunities for future route growth.
