WASHINGTON : The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces carried out additional defensive strikes targeting several locations inside Iran, asserting that the operations were in response to what it described as Iranian threats to US forces and international commercial vessels transiting territorial waters.
In a statement, the Central Command said that U.S. forces targeted Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems, and air defence sites in various parts of Iran.
In response, the Iranian military command said it had launched a number of missiles and closed maritime navigation in the area.
The United States denied reports of a maritime closure in the Middle East region, asserting that commercial vessels continue to transit normally.
