TEHRAN : Iran’s state television reported that the Strait of Hormuz has been shut to maritime traffic, including oil tankers and commercial ships, citing heightened security risks following recent military developments in the region.
The Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) warned that any vessel attempting to pass through the narrow waterway would face attack, describing U.S. assurances regarding the safety of navigation in the area as “false” and detached from the current security situation.
The announcement comes as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to intensify, raising concerns over the security of one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.
