BONN : The warning was issued as the UN climate conference opened in the German city of Bonn, where officials said the tournament may take place under exceptional climatic conditions that could impact both players and spectators inside stadiums and across host cities.

Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, said increasing temperatures are posing growing challenges not only to sport but also to daily life, with wider implications for food security and the global economy.

The Secretariat cautioned that some matches could be played in extreme heat conditions, stressing the need for precautionary measures to protect fans and reduce health risks associated with high temperatures during the tournament.
