MUSCAT – In an awareness message, the authority highlighted the question, “How many times have you bought a plastic water bottle today?”, stressing that while plastic bottles are often used for only a few minutes, they can persist in the environment for hundreds of years after disposal.
The authority noted that exposure to high temperatures, such as during hot weather conditions, may cause plastic bottles left in sunlight to release certain chemicals into the water, raising additional health concerns.
It also warned that the widespread use of single-use plastic contributes significantly to environmental pollution, urging individuals to adopt more sustainable alternatives to protect both public health and the environment in Oman.
