KUWAIT CITY : Kuwait’s military said missile and drone strikes targeting Kuwait International Airport caused significant material damage to airport facilities and injured several people, prompting authorities to suspend flight operations and divert aircraft to alternative airports.
In a statement, officials said one of the strikes hit a terminal building at the airport, damaging infrastructure and disrupting operations. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site, while technical specialists began assessing the extent of the damage and inspecting critical operational systems.
Civil aviation authorities announced that all flights to and from Kuwait International Airport would remain suspended until safety assessments are completed and the airport is declared ready to resume normal operations. Aircraft already en route were diverted to alternative airports as a precautionary measure.

The attack came amid escalating tensions in the Gulf after Iran launched a barrage of missiles and drones toward Kuwait and Bahrain. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the operation was carried out in retaliation for recent U.S. military actions and warned that the strikes “should serve as a lesson” to the United States.
