MUSCAT : The next official public holiday in Oman will be observed on Thursday, June 18, 2026, on the occasion of the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year), offering employees in both the public and private sectors a mid-week break.

The holiday marks the beginning of the year 1448 AH in the Islamic lunar calendar and commemorates the Hijrah, the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madinah, a defining event in Islamic history.

The Ministry of Labour had earlier released Oman’s 2026 public holiday calendar, listing Thursday, June 18, 2026, as the official holiday for the Islamic New Year, in accordance with the annual holiday calendar endorsed by the Council of Ministers.

With Friday and Saturday constituting the weekend in Oman, many employees can look forward to a three-day break, providing an opportunity for short getaways, family gatherings and leisure activities.

The Islamic New Year is one of the key religious observances in the Sultanate and marks the start of a new year in the Islamic calendar.
