Oman, Iran reaffirm commitment to free navigation through Strait of Hormuz

MUSCAT — Oman’s Foreign Minister and his Iranian counterpart reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz during a telephone conversation on Friday, according to Oman News Agency (ONA).

The two ministers stressed the importance of maintaining the free and secure flow of maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, in line with their sovereign responsibilities over regional waters and in accordance with international law.

The discussion comes amid heightened international attention on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which a significant share of the world’s oil and gas supplies passes.

According to ONA, both sides underscored the need to safeguard the interests of all regional and international stakeholders while preserving stability and security in the area.

The ministers also highlighted the importance of cooperation and adherence to international legal frameworks to ensure the continued safety of maritime navigation and regional trade routes.
