WASHINGTON — Trump posted on Truth Social that the emerging agreement will lead to the reopening of maritime navigation in the region, the closure of which has disrupted global energy markets since the United States and Israel launched a war on Iran in February. The final aspects and details of the agreement are currently being discussed and will be announced soon.

For its part, the Islamic Republic of Iran explained that it is working on concluding a memorandum of understanding to end the war after its senior officials met with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir, who sought to play the role of mediator to end the war.

A Pakistani source familiar with the negotiations described the talks as “encouraging,” saying the proposed agreement was “fairly comprehensive” and would be implemented in three phases: formally ending the war, resolving the maritime navigation crisis, and launching a 30-day negotiation process for a broader agreement that could be extended if needed.

Trump also held calls with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan. According to Axios, regional leaders urged Washington to support the proposed framework.

The US president also said a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had gone “very well.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said tensions had eased in recent days, though several issues remained unresolved. “This week saw a decrease in the intensity of the disputes, but there are still issues that need to be discussed through mediators,” Baghaei said, adding that developments over the next “three or four days” would be critical.

Baghaei said that the issue of the American blockade imposed on Iranian shipping is important, but Tehran’s priority is to end the threat of new American attacks, as well as to stop the ongoing conflict in the entire region.
