DUBAI : The Fujairah station, located in Al Hilal City, marks a major milestone in the phased rollout of the UAE’s national passenger rail service. The station is the first among the network’s planned 11 passenger stations to be completed.

According to Adhraa Almansoori, Executive Director of Commercial at Etihad Rail Mobility, the remaining stations are currently undergoing final operational preparations to ensure public safety and readiness before services begin.

Speaking during a media preview, Almansoori said Etihad Rail is making the “final touches” to stations in Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai and Madinat Zayed in Abu Dhabi, both of which are expected to be among the first stations to open alongside Fujairah.

Earlier this year, Etihad Rail officially announced the first three stations of the network, while confirming that the remaining stations across the country will open gradually in phases.

The company also revealed that future expansion plans are being actively studied based on transport demand and the UAE’s long-term development goals.

Designed to strengthen connectivity across the Emirates, the passenger trains are expected to operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h. Once operational, the journey between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah is projected to take around 105 minutes.

Etihad Rail said station locations are strategically selected based on factors including population density, transportation demand, and alignment with national development projects.

Beyond transportation, the Fujairah station is expected to support tourism and economic activity in the emirate. The station is located approximately 12 minutes from Fujairah International Airport, eight minutes from Fujairah city centre and Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and close to attractions such as Sakamkam Fort and Umbrella Beach.

Etihad Rail has also highlighted the broader social impact of the passenger network, describing it as a safer and more reliable alternative to road travel while enhancing mobility and regional connectivity across the UAE.
