DUBAI : The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has partnered with Sphere Entertainment Co. to bring the revolutionary, immersive venue to Yas Island.

The landmark project is set to cement the UAE capital’s status as a premier world destination, combining cutting-edge technology with a platform for Emirati culture.

Strategically located between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, the $1.7 billion facility will be nestled within lush green surroundings, just a short drive from Zayed International Airport.

Construction is already targeted for completion by the end of 2029.
The venue is designed with a flexible capacity of up to 20,000, allowing it to host a diverse array of events.

From the signature multi-sensory “Sphere Experiences” to major concert residencies featuring both regional Arabic stars and international icons, the Sphere aims to provide year-round entertainment. It will also serve as a high-tech stage for marquee events, including product launches and combat sports.

DCT Abu Dhabi Chairman, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, hailed the investment as a clear signal of the emirate’s openness to the world and its commitment to innovation.

“Together, we are creating a venue that will draw our community, visitors, creators and investors to Yas Island and Abu Dhabi for decades to come,” Al Mubarak stated.

He emphasized that the project is rooted in putting Emirati talent and storytelling on a global stage.
The “Exosphere”, the venue’s iconic spherical LED exterior, will not only change the skyline but will also be used to display original Emirati artwork, blending 21st-century tech with local heritage.

James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, noted that Abu Dhabi’s world-class infrastructure made it the “natural home” for the brand’s first international expansion. This move follows the massive success of the original Las Vegas Sphere, which opened in late 2023.

Beyond daily tourism, the Sphere is expected to provide a stunning backdrop for the annual Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ensuring the venue remains in the global spotlight through international broadcasts for years to come.
