BEIJING : China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday that Beijing is prepared to work with Washington to continuously expand areas of cooperation while reducing points of disagreement.

Speaking at a press briefing, Ministry spokesperson He Yongqian said Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held “candid, in-depth and constructive” discussions during their meeting in South Korea.

He stated that China is ready to move forward with the United States based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and shared benefit. According to the spokesperson, both countries are aiming to broaden cooperation while shortening the “problem list” in order to promote stable and healthy economic and trade relations.

Meanwhile, the White House described the meeting between former US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping as productive, stating that Trump “had a good meeting with President Xi.”

In a statement, the White House said both sides discussed enhancing economic cooperation, including increasing market access for American businesses in China and encouraging greater Chinese investment into US industries.

The statement also noted that both nations agreed on the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure the uninterrupted flow of global energy supplies.
