MUSCAT : The decision, triggered by a CBI probe into a suspected question paper leak, affects more than 2.2 million students worldwide, including those who appeared at centres in the Sultanate on May 3. While a re-test date is yet to be announced, officials confirmed that Omani candidates will not be required to pay additional fees or re-register for the upcoming exam.

NEET UG serves as the main entrance test for admission into MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical programmes in India.

In a statement, the NTA said the decision to cancel and reconduct the examination was taken after reviewing inputs received in coordination with central agencies and law enforcement authorities.

The agency said investigative findings indicated that the integrity of the current examination process had been compromised, making it necessary to annul the test in order to maintain transparency and public confidence in the national examination system.

According to the NTA, the examination will be conducted again on dates to be announced later through official channels. Revised admit card schedules will also be issued in the coming days.

The agency clarified that students who registered for the May 2026 examination cycle will not be required to apply again or pay additional examination fees. Existing registration details and examination centres will remain valid for the re-test, while fees already paid will be refunded to candidates.

The NTA acknowledged that reconducting the examination would cause inconvenience to students and families but said the move was necessary to protect the credibility and trust associated with India’s national examination system.
