TEL AVIV : According to a rights group representing the detainees, an Israeli court in Ashkelon has ordered that the two activists remain in custody until Sunday morning. The decision comes as investigations into their activities continue.

The activists, Spanish national Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian Thiago Avila, were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an initiative aimed at reaching Gaza. They were reportedly intercepted in international waters off the coast of Greece last week and subsequently brought to Israel.

The pair appeared in court for their second hearing on Friday. Speaking to AFP, Miriam Azem, international advocacy coordinator at the Israeli rights group Adalah, confirmed the court’s decision, stating, “The court approved their detention until Sunday morning.”
