MUSCAT : The authority said the product, manufactured in China and classified as a children’s toy, poses significant danger if its magnetic components are swallowed. Alerts received through the Gulf ‘Aajel’ rapid warning system indicate that ingesting more than one strong magnet within a short period can cause them to attract inside the intestines.

This can lead to severe medical complications, including intestinal twisting, blockages, or perforations, posing a direct threat to a child’s life, the CPA said.

As part of its response, the authority conducted inspections and field searches through relevant official channels. However, it confirmed that no authorised local distributor for the product was identified within the Sultanate of Oman.

This suggests the item may have entered the market through unofficial means, such as online purchases or imports from neighbouring countries.

The CPA urged parents and consumers to avoid buying or using such products and to ensure that children’s toys meet approved safety standards. It also stressed the importance of supervising children when using toys containing small or magnetic parts.

Consumers were further advised to follow safety alerts issued on the CPA’s official website and the ‘Aajel’ platform affiliated with the Gulf Standardization Organization to stay updated on hazardous products.
