WASHINGTON : The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said no vessels have entered or exited Iranian ports in the 48 hours since Washington began enforcing a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, signalling tight control over one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
In a statement, CENTCOM said nine vessels had complied with orders from US forces to turn around during the period.
The update contradicts earlier reports by Iran’s Fars News Agency, which claimed a sanctioned Iranian supertanker had sailed through the strait en route to Imam Khomeini Port.

According to the report, it remains unclear whether the tanker – capable of carrying up to 2 million barrels of crude – had offloaded its cargo.
