ISLAMABAD : According to sources in Pakistan cited by Reuters, Vice President JD Vance landed in Islamabad ahead of high-level discussions between Tehran and the administration of Donald Trump, scheduled to take place later today.
The talks are being closely watched as a potential turning point in US–Iran relations, which have seen prolonged periods of strain. Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, noted that both sides appear committed to the negotiation process despite the challenges leading up to the meeting.
Describing the road to dialogue as marked by several “ups and downs,” Sheikh expressed cautious optimism that the discussions could pave the way for progress, including potential ceasefire understandings.

In parallel, senior US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have also arrived in Islamabad to participate in the talks, underscoring the importance Washington is placing on the negotiations.
