GENEVA-Some hospitals in Lebanon could run out of life-saving trauma kits within days, the World Health Organization said on Thursday, as supplies dwindle following a sharp rise in casualties from widespread Israeli airstrikes.

The WHO said the kits, which include essential items such as bandages, antibiotics and anaesthetics, have been rapidly consumed after hospitals treated large numbers of wounded from the previous day’s strikes.

“Some of the trauma management supplies were in short supply, and we may run out in a few days,” the WHO’s representative in Lebanon said, warning that another mass casualty event could prove disastrous.

Hospitals were overwhelmed after the attacks, which caused heavy civilian losses and strained an already fragile healthcare system, raising concerns over the ability to respond to further emergencies.
