TEHRAN : Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz after allowing a limited number of vessels to pass, accusing Israel of violating a recently agreed ceasefire by launching a major attack on Lebanon, state-linked media reported.

The decision came on Wednesday, shortly after a handful of ships were permitted to transit the strategic waterway, through which a significant share of global oil supplies passes.

Iran said the move was in response to Israeli military actions in Lebanon, which it described as a breach of the ceasefire terms, according to reports by Iranian media.

The closure of the strait underscores the fragility of the truce and raises concerns over renewed disruption to global energy markets and shipping routes.
