Oil prices surge over $4 following Trump’s comments on continued strikes against Iran

Oil prices jumped by more than four dollars today after President Donald Trump said the United States would continue strikes on Iran, including energy and oil targets, in the coming weeks, without specifying a timeline for ending the conflict.

BEIJING – Brent crude futures rose $4.88, or 4.8 percent, to $106.04 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed $4.17, or 4.2 percent, to $104.29 a barrel.
The surge comes amid growing concerns over global supply disruptions. On Wednesday, the head of the International Energy Agency warned that these disruptions could begin to affect Europe’s economy in April.
