MUSCAT — Oman’s emergency authorities said on Friday that 257 people have been accommodated in shelters across several governorates affected by the current weather system, as authorities scale up relief and response operations.

According to the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM), a total of 215 shelter centres have been identified nationwide, of which 64 have been fully equipped to receive evacuees.

Authorities confirmed that seven shelters have been activated so far to accommodate residents displaced or impacted by adverse weather conditions linked to a low-pressure system affecting parts of the country.

The NCEM said the relief and shelter sector continues to provide necessary support to affected individuals, including accommodation and essential services, as part of coordinated national response efforts.
