MUSCAT – According to the Civil Aviation Authority, active thunderstorms are currently affecting Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, and South Al Sharqiyah, as unstable weather continues to spread across the Sultanate.

The forecast also indicates cloud cover extending over most regions, with rainfall of varying intensity expected in Musandam Governorate, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi Governorate, North and South Al Sharqiyah, and Dhofar Governorate. These conditions are likely to be accompanied by overflowing wadis, hailstorms, and fresh to strong winds.

The Authority has issued Alert Level 4 for heavy rainfall, warning that the weather system will intensify through Tuesday, with storms initially affecting Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North Al Batinah, and Musandam before expanding into other regions, including Muscat and Al Wusta.

Authorities cautioned that rainfall may become very heavy at times, triggering flash floods in wadis and low-lying areas, some of which could turn torrential. Strong downdraft winds are also expected, posing risks to infrastructure and transport, while visibility may drop sharply, potentially to near zero, during intense downpours and fog formation.

Residents in parts of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta Governorate, and Dhofar have also been advised to prepare for low cloud cover and fog, further reducing visibility.

The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre has urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid crossing flooded wadis, steer clear of low-lying areas, and refrain from going to sea during the warning period.
The alert remains in effect until 10 pm Tuesday, as authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather system and its potential impact across the country.
