MUSCAT : Globally, renewable electricity generation is expected to increase significantly by 2030, as governments, industry and investors accelerate efforts to transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy systems. Global renewable energy production could increase by almost 60%, from about 9,900 terawatt-hours in 2024 to about 16,200 terawatt-hours by the end of this decade, energy analysts say.
Solar energy is expected to play the largest role in this expansion, accounting for more than half of the projected increase in renewable electricity generation, with wind energy expected to contribute around 30% of this increase. Experts also point out that falling technology costs, improved energy storage solutions, and supportive government policies are accelerating its adoption around the world.
As a result, renewable energy could provide more than 40% of the world’s electricity by 2030, marking a major milestone in the global transition away from fossil fuels. In addition to solar and wind energy, hydropower, bioenergy and geothermal energy are also expected to continue contributing to the renewable energy mix.

Many countries are also developing large-scale renewable infrastructure projects and encouraging private investment in clean energy development. Analysts believe this rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity will play a key role in meeting growing global electricity demand while supporting international climate change goals and long-term sustainable economic growth.
