CAIRO : Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that the prices of some fuels have increased by up to 17%. This is one of the latest adjustments in the country’s long-standing subsidy reform program.

Officials said the measures were part of broader economic reforms aimed at stabilizing public finances and promoting more efficient energy consumption. The government added that programs to support vulnerable households will continue to help cushion the impact of rising prices, particularly for low-income households and public transport users.

The government has gradually reduced fuel subsidies in recent years to ease pressure on the national budget and redirect spending to infrastructure, health and social programs. Analysts say the reforms also aim to bring domestic fuel prices more in line with global energy market trends.

Economists said the increase could raise transportation and production costs in the short term but could improve Egypt’s fiscal balance and attract foreign investment by demonstrating a commitment to economic reform. Authorities said they will continue to monitor the situation and may take additional measures as necessary to maintain economic stability.
