MUSCAT — Oman’s Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority has completed procedures to award a contract worth more than RO 157 million for the expansion of the Muscat Expressway, according to an official announcement.
The authority said the project, valued at RO 157 million, was awarded in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, following decisions taken by the Tender Board during its first meeting of 2026, held on February 19, 2026.
The expansion project will cover the stretch of the Muscat Expressway between the Al Qurum Natural Park interchange and the Halban interchange, aiming to improve traffic capacity and reduce congestion along one of the capital’s busiest transport corridors.

The Muscat Expressway is one of the Sultanate’s most important arterial routes, linking key districts across Muscat and serving as a major alternative to the Sultan Qaboos Highway. Authorities have said expanding the road will support growing traffic demand and enhance mobility within the capital.
The contract forms part of a broader package of development projects approved during the same meeting, which also included the dualisation of the Ibra road between Al-Yahmadi and Al-Qafisi, bringing the total value of projects awarded to more than RO 186 million.
