MUSCAT: Oman’s Public Prosecution has issued a public warning urging citizens, residents and social media users to refrain from filming, publishing or circulating videos, images or information related to ongoing incidents in a manner that could compromise public security or spread panic.
In an official statement carried by Oman TV, the Public Prosecution stressed that no visual content, photos, or information linked to accidents, locations or unfolding events should be shared if it could undermine public order or provoke fear among members of society.
The advisory comes amid increased online activity and the rapid spread of unverified content across social media platforms. Authorities noted a rise in the circulation of material that has triggered public anxiety and legal concerns.

The Public Prosecution reiterated that publishing or republishing rumours and inaccurate information will expose violators to legal accountability under Oman’s penal laws.
“As part of its responsibility to enforce criminal laws, the Public Prosecution confirms that the dissemination of false or unverified information will subject offenders to prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
Authorities urged the public to rely solely on official sources for updates and to act responsibly when engaging on digital platforms.
