DOHA : Qatar’s Ministry of Defence said on Saturday it had successfully repelled a number of attacks that targeted its territory, as Gulf states faced a wave of security incidents amid escalating regional tensions.

In a statement, the ministry said Qatari air defences intercepted the attacks, without immediately providing further details on the nature of the projectiles or any potential damage or casualties.

The announcement came after Qatar closed its airspace as a precautionary measure following reports of explosions in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

In Kuwait, warning sirens were activated after explosions were heard in parts of the country, according to state media. In the UAE, a loud explosion was reported in Abu Dhabi, and authorities earlier announced a temporary partial closure of the country’s airspace as an exceptional precautionary step.

In Bahrain, explosions were reported after the Interior Ministry activated warning sirens nationwide and urged citizens and residents to seek shelter. The Bahraini National Contact Center said a service centre affiliated with the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet had been subjected to a missile attack, while state media later reported that attacks targeted sites inside the kingdom launched from outside its borders.

Several Gulf states have tightened security and aviation measures following Israel’s attack on Iran, raising concerns about a broader regional escalation.

Authorities across the region have urged the public to remain calm, follow official instructions and rely on state sources for updates as the situation continues to develop.
