MUSCAT : Police in Oman have arrested 59 drivers for causing public disturbance and endangering road safety by revving engines and creating excessive noise in Baushar, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said on Tuesday.

The arrests were carried out by the Muscat Governorate Police Command in coordination with the Special Tasks Police Unit in Baushar, following complaints about motorists generating loud exhaust sounds and disruptive behaviour in residential areas.

Authorities also impounded 20 vehicles for violating traffic safety regulations, the ROP said in a statement posted on social media platform X.

Legal procedures are being completed against those detained, police added, reiterating their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring road safety.
