WASHINGTON : The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has fined the University of North Carolina $50,000 after fans stormed the court after a men’s basketball game against Duke.

The conference noted that UNC officials reported being hit during the scuffle and said the fine was issued, citing safety concerns and violations of the league’s rules of conduct.

Details released by the ACC highlighted that on-field storming incidents pose risks to players, coaches, and officials and reinforced expectations that member institutions must maintain order during competitions.

The fine comes as part of broader efforts by college leagues to strengthen crowd control measures and improve security during high-profile rivalry games, where emotions and stakes are often high.
