Dhaka: The verdicts were delivered by Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4 Judge Rabiul Alam, who handed down five years’ imprisonment in each case, state-run BSS news agency reported. The judgments were pronounced at around 12:30 pm.
The cases relate to alleged abuses of power in the allocation of plots under the Rajuk New Town Project in Purbachal. Along with Hasina, the court convicted her nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq and her nieces Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq, among others.
Tulip Siddiq was sentenced to four years in prison, two years in each case, while Radwan Mujib Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq were each sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment across the two cases. Rajuk member Mohammad Khurshid Alam, the only accused to surrender before the court, received a total sentence of two years, one year in each case.

The court also imposed fines of Tk1 lakh on all those convicted and ordered an additional six months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
Hasina, 78, has been living in India since August 5, 2024, after fleeing Bangladesh amid widespread protests. She had earlier been declared a fugitive by the court.
The cases were filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission over alleged manipulation of the allocation process for two 10-katha plots, with prosecutors stating that the accused violated existing rules and regulations of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
