KOCHI : Dubai-based Indian expatriate businessman Dr. C.J. Roy, chairman of Confident Group, has died by suicide, Indian media reported on Friday.

Roy, 57, was found dead at his office in Bengaluru, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, police said. He was declared dead at the scene after being discovered inside his office premises in the Anepalya area of the city.

Indian media reports said police were alerted by staff members, following which senior officers and forensic teams arrived at the location to begin an investigation. Authorities said Roy was alone at the time of the incident. No official statement has been issued regarding a motive, and it remains unclear whether a note was recovered.

Some Indian media outlets reported that the death occurred amid an ongoing Income Tax Department raid linked to Roy’s business interests, though police have not confirmed any connection.

Founded in 2005, Confident Group is a well-known real estate and infrastructure developer with projects spanning residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across several Indian states. Roy was also associated with film production ventures and was regarded as a prominent figure in business circles.

Police said investigations are continuing, and further details are expected after completion of procedural formalities.
