DUBAI : Pakistan is considering its participation in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Saturday, adding that a final decision will be taken after consulting the government.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the matter has moved beyond cricket administration and will be decided at the political level once the country’s leadership reviews the situation.

“The PCB will act strictly in line with the guidance of the government of Pakistan,” Naqvi said, without elaborating on a timeline for a final decision.

The uncertainty follows the ICC’s decision earlier this week to exclude Bangladesh after the Bangladesh Cricket Board declined to play its scheduled matches in India, citing security and political concerns. The ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request to move its fixtures to co-host Sri Lanka and subsequently named Scotland as a replacement team.

Naqvi criticised the move, saying Bangladesh, as a Full Member nation, deserved more consideration, and warned that the decision could set a troubling precedent for international cricket governance.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is scheduled to begin on February 7. Pakistan is one of the marquee teams in the tournament, and any withdrawal would have significant sporting and commercial implications.

The ICC has not commented publicly on Pakistan’s position.
