MUSCAT – The case dates back to a complaint received by the Consumer Protection Authority’s department in the Wilayat of Ibra from a consumer who had contracted with the two defendants, operating in the doors and windows fabrication sector. The agreement involved the manufacture of doors and frames for rooms, bathrooms, and washbasins using marble and granite materials, for a total amount of RO 2,000. The work was scheduled to be completed within three weeks from the date of the contract.

However, the defendants failed to complete the agreed work within the specified timeframe, with the consumer reporting repeated delays and procrastination. Additionally, the defendants issued an invoice written in English, justifying this by claiming a lack of familiarity with the Arabic language.

Following the complaint, the Consumer Protection Department initiated the necessary legal procedures and referred the case to the Public Prosecution, which conducted its investigation. Upon completion of the case file, the matter was referred to the competent court.

The court ruled to convict the defendants on the charges brought against them, imposing a fine of OMR 100 on each defendant for the first charge and an additional OMR 100 for the second charge. The civil claim related to the case was referred to the competent Civil Court for further consideration.

The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing market-regulating laws and safeguarding consumers’ rights. It also urged all institutions and companies to strictly comply with applicable laws and regulations, emphasizing that legal action will be taken against violators without leniency.
