MUSCAT : The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with the National Survey and Geospatial Information Authority and Google, has launched the second phase of Oman’s Street View project. The project enables users inside the Sultanate and around the world to explore Oman’s natural landscapes, historical landmarks, and modern infrastructure through 360-degree panoramic imagery available via the Street View feature on Google Maps.

The second phase was launched through an official rollout on Google Maps, as a step that contributes to strengthening Oman’s digital presence, improving accessibility to locations across the Sultanate, and delivering expected positive impacts on several sectors, most notably tourism and the development of services and businesses.

The new coverage includes all governorates of the Sultanate, from Musandam to Dhofar, and features routes and landmarks that were not included in the first phase. This comes as part of efforts to expand coverage during 2025, with the total distance targeted in the second phase reaching 27,000 kilometers. The images were captured using “Trekker” devices developed by Google.

The launch of this phase reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to supporting innovation, enhancing digital access, and reinforcing its position as a tourism destination rich in cultural and natural diversity. Users can view the imagery on Google Maps by enabling the “Street View” option within the application’s display settings.

It is worth noting that the first phase included a selected number of locations, including Khor Rori, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with coverage at that time reaching approximately 36,000 kilometers. With the completion of both the first and second phases, total coverage has now reached approximately 63,000 kilometers. A third phase is planned for 2026 to refresh several routes covered in the first and second phases, with the aim of providing a more updated view of Oman’s diverse and stunning landscapes on Google Maps.
