MUSCAT : Speaking on the Youth Morning programme on Oman Radio, the Minister said that the achievements recorded over the past six years clearly reflect this commitment. He noted tangible improvements across social, economic and financial sectors, adding that international indicators and global research centres have praised Oman’s progress during this period.
H.E. Dr. Al Harrasi stressed that nearly every speech or meeting of His Majesty highlights the importance of addressing negative social and cultural phenomena, particularly in today’s open digital environment. He explained that during a Cabinet meeting, His Majesty directed authorities to study and diagnose behavioural changes in society, and to develop clear policies and governance mechanisms, a reflection, he said, of a leadership deeply concerned with the well-being of the nation and its people.
The Minister highlighted the profound impact of modern communication tools, noting that while they have transformed the world, their influence is not entirely negative. When used responsibly, he said, these platforms can be powerful tools for education, communication, self-development, strengthening social ties, and improving institutional performance.

At the same time, he cautioned that technological advancement has also produced negative consequences within homes and society, contributing to a widening generational gap. This, he explained, has created the perception of two separate worlds, that of parents and elders, and that of youth. While older generations may lack advanced technological skills, H.E. Dr. Al Harrasi emphasised that their life experience remains a vital asset, even in the era of artificial intelligence. He said the Cabinet’s position aims to protect young people from potential harms that could affect both their present abilities and future prospects.
His Excellency noted that several countries have begun regulating social media use for children below certain ages, clarifying that such measures do not amount to banning the internet. Rather, they seek to regulate potentially harmful applications while ensuring access to educational and cultural content.
Addressing artificial intelligence, the Minister said the world’s entry into the AI age presents immense opportunities alongside serious challenges. While these technologies rely on big data and rapid processing, a major positive development, he warned they could be misused without sufficient human awareness. He added that His Majesty consistently draws attention to both the risks and the vast positive potential of AI.
Against a backdrop of global political and intellectual turbulence, H.E. Dr. Al Harrasi affirmed that Oman remains a stable nation, moving forward with confidence and balance while placing human development at the centre of its priorities. He stressed that the Sultanate has remained unaffected by global instability, standing as an oasis of calm due to its wise leadership, balanced policies, and refusal to be drawn into conflicts or polarisation.
He concluded by saying that this approach has built and protected Oman, enabling it to navigate an uncertain world with steady confidence.
