CARACAS : Venezuela’s government has declared a national state of emergency after at least seven explosions were heard in the capital Caracas, according to witnesses cited by The Associated Press, amid accusations that the United States launched coordinated attacks on civilian and military installations.

Residents reported hearing multiple explosions followed by a low-flying aircraft, while parts of southern Caracas, including areas near a major military base, were left without electricity. There were no immediate official reports of casualties.

In an official statement, the Venezuelan government said the alleged attacks occurred in Caracas and in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, rejecting what it described as a “military aggression.” Authorities accused Washington of attempting to seize Venezuela’s oil and mineral resources, vowing that such efforts “will not succeed.”

President Nicolás Maduro announced the national emergency declaration, placing security forces on heightened alert and ordering an assessment of damage and infrastructure impacts.

The United States has not issued an immediate response to the allegations.
